Welcome to my new journal! (Thanks for the invite code, [personal profile] kylara . :D)  I'll be using this mainly to update folks on my writing career.  But be warned, there might be the occasional randomness.

I'm really excited to announce that I just sold another non-fiction article to Strange Horizons! This one is called “Saint Patrick, the Irish Druids & the Conversion of Pagan Ireland to Christianity.” I will update as soon as it goes up on the site, but based on the length of time it took to edit my last article, that may not be for a while. (Old article “Medieval Mindsets: Narrative Theory and The Mists of Avalon” can be found here)

I honestly don't think it should take that long, though. The first article I submitted required a srs bsns rewrite to change the original scholarly voice to one that was more accessible to a general audience (no more jargon). I fretted and procrastinated over that for a whole summer before I sent in a better version, so that delay was all me. There were lots of smaller editing issues to tackle after that. But a year and a half later I was able to call myself a published writer, so it was definitely worth it.

Also for those who might not know, my novel excerpt for "The Oracle of Bacchus" won my college's Research and Creative Work on Women Award in the alumna category sponsored by the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women. For not an insubstantial amount of money, I might add. *g*
